What are basic things you should know before strating your IAS preparation

I have been preparing for my IAS past 3 years. Throughout my journey, I have met a lot aspirant like me including seniors who have been preparing for UPSC or IAS for the last 10 years.
Also observed and interacted with a topper over the years. In these 3 years, I have learned a lot them which I would be sharing here.

Best tips for UPSC preparation for beginners like me:
  1. We must be single-minded about what we want to achieve. Not chasing many things like online earning, side business or other competitive exams like CAT or GATE.
  2. Ready to give 200% effort with no fear to fall or getting screwed after failure.
  3. Learning from mistakes not repeating again and ever.
  4. Plan to achieve goals and accomplish them without sacrificing too much time and energy. Like a study time schedule 12 hours a day.
  5. Not being too much emotional about the success and failure in the examination.
  6. Being adaptable to everything. Don’t inlist bad thoughts and junk foods which could harm your preparation.
  7. Don’t fail to resist pressure either emotionally or mentally. Don’t think about any criticism about your failure by either from society or family members.
  8. Not looking for many sources for preparation find the which suits you and can provide a lot of value than gibberish information.
  9. Very strict to time discipline and management.
  10. They have got the capacity towards delay satisfaction. They aren’t hankering right after immediate being successful. They are prepared to put the effort and hard work that it requires today, recognizing fully will certainly that it will bear fruit only a year from at this moment.
